President Donald J. Trump is once again proving he puts America First — this time by taking a hard stand against Mexico’s failure to uphold its obligations under the 1944 Water Treaty. In a bold move, President Trump has threatened tariffs and sanctions against the Mexican government for withholding critical water owed to the United States, putting the livelihoods of Texas farmers at risk.

The treaty requires Mexico to deliver 1.75 million acre-feet of water to the U.S. over a five-year period, but Mexico has reportedly delivered less than 30% of its obligation, with just months left before the October deadline. This blatant disregard has caused widespread agricultural harm across South Texas — including the tragic closure of the state’s only sugar mill.
“Mexico is stealing water from our farmers,” President Trump declared. “We’re not going to stand by while Texas dries up and our agriculture suffers. If Mexico won’t honor its deal, we will make them feel it where it counts — with tariffs and trade penalties.”
Trump’s leadership is backed by key allies including Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Senator Ted Cruz, who have both echoed his demands for immediate action. Together, they are championing the rights of hardworking American farmers and holding foreign governments accountable.
Meanwhile, the Mexican government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, is attempting to blame drought conditions and claims it is delivering “as much as it can.” But Trump supporters see this as yet another excuse from a country that continues to benefit from U.S. trade without keeping its promises.
President Trump’s America First agenda has always prioritized U.S. jobs, resources, and security — and this is no exception. Texas agriculture is under threat, and the Trump administration is making it clear: America will not be cheated.
