PAHALGAM, INDIA — On April 22, 2025, a devastating terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Indian-administered Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of at least 28 individuals and left over 20 others injured. The assailants, reportedly affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted tourists in a mass shooting that has been described as one of the deadliest in the region since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers, dressed in camouflage and armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s, emerged from the surrounding forests and opened fire on the unsuspecting tourists. Survivors reported that the militants separated men from women and children, executing the men at close range. Some victims were reportedly targeted based on their inability to recite Islamic verses, while others were spared for the purpose of relaying the events to authorities.
