BENTONVILLE, AR — Sam’s Club is revolutionizing the retail experience by removing traditional checkout lanes across all 600 of its U.S. locations. This initiative introduces an AI-driven, cashier-less shopping model aimed at enhancing efficiency and customer satisfaction.

The transformation centers around the expansion of the “Scan & Go” system, allowing members to scan items using the Sam’s Club mobile app as they shop, pay within the app, and exit the store without stopping at a register. An AI-powered exit system verifies purchases, eliminating the need for manual receipt checks.
This technology was first introduced at a store in Grapevine, Texas, serving as a prototype for the nationwide rollout. The Grapevine location also features additional innovations, such as automated forklifts and a robotic pizza maker, showcasing the company’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into its operations.
The shift towards a cashier-less model aligns with changing consumer preferences, particularly among younger demographics. Sam’s Club reports that digitally engaged members shop more frequently and across a broader range of categories.
CEO Chris Nicholas describes this transformation as one of the fastest and most scalable in retail today, emphasizing the company’s investment in technology to improve the member experience.
While the move has received positive feedback for its convenience, some customers have expressed concerns about the transition. Sam’s Club continues to gather feedback to ensure a smooth implementation across all locations.
