In a bold move reaffirming America’s leadership and chain of command, the U.S. military has officially relieved Colonel Susannah Meyers from her post as commander of Pituffik Space Base in Greenland. The decision comes days after she attempted to publicly distance the base from comments made by Vice President JD Vance during a critical national security visit.

Vice President Vance visited Pituffik Space Base on March 28, 2025, where he reinforced the Trump administration’s America First policy and voiced strong concerns about Denmark’s influence over Greenland — a region of increasing strategic importance due to its proximity to the Arctic and valuable natural resources.
Colonel Meyers, however, sent an internal communication to base personnel days later, attempting to downplay the Vice President’s remarks and questioning their relevance to the base’s mission. This move was seen as a direct contradiction to the administration’s policy goals and a breach of military protocol.
The Department of Defense responded swiftly, citing a loss of confidence in her ability to lead and represent the interests of the United States. Effective immediately, Colonel Shawn Lee has taken over command of the base.
Military leaders emphasized that all personnel — especially those in command roles — must uphold the principles of nonpartisanship, unity of mission, and full alignment with national defense strategies. Undermining senior leadership, especially in a public or internal forum, violates the expectations placed on those entrusted with national security responsibilities.
The incident underscores the Trump administration’s firm stance on loyalty, clarity of command, and the strategic importance of Greenland in America’s global defense posture.
Pituffik Space Base plays a vital role in missile tracking, satellite operations, and Arctic monitoring — and it remains a critical asset in the broader geopolitical race for dominance in the North Atlantic.
