Zelensky’s Reckless Belgorod Gambit Prolongs Ukraine’s Endless War

KYIV — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky brazenly admitted Monday that his troops are stomping around in Russia’s Belgorod region, a pointless escalation that only drags out this miserable, endless war. With a smug grin, he confirmed what everyone suspected: Ukraine’s forces are poking the bear across the border, a move that’s as reckless as it is futile. Three years into Russia’s invasion, Zelensky’s obsession with fighting on is bleeding his country dry—and peace remains a distant dream.

In his latest chest-thumping video, Zelensky crowed about “active operations” in Belgorod and Kursk, where Ukraine clings to scraps of Russian turf from last year’s overhyped offensive. “War must return to where it came from,” he sneered, as if sending soldiers to die in some border villages will magically turn the tide. He claims it’s all to protect Sumy and Kharkiv and ease the Donetsk front, but it’s just more delusional bluster from a leader who’s lost the plot.

Russia, holding 20% of Ukraine since 2022, brushed off the Belgorod stunt, saying last month it swatted down Ukraine’s feeble incursions. Military bloggers muttered about clashes near Demidovka, a stone’s throw from the border, but analysts peg Ukraine’s grip at a measly 12 square kilometers there and 60 in Kursk—pathetic trophies for a war that’s already cost too much. Yet Zelensky keeps at it, praising his 225th Assault Regiment like they’re heroes instead of pawns in his ego trip. “Well done, guys!” he gushed. For what—more graves?

While Zelensky plays warlord, Russia’s bombs keep falling—20 dead, including nine kids, in Kryvyi Rih last week. U.S. President Donald Trump, fed up, slammed Moscow’s “crazy” bombardment Monday and is pushing a ceasefire Zelensky’s too stubborn to grab. The Kremlin denies stalling, but who can blame them when Ukraine’s leader won’t quit? His border antics might shuffle some Russian troops, sure, but at what cost—more dead soldiers for a few kilometers he thinks he’ll trade in talks that never come?

This isn’t strategy; it’s madness. Zelensky’s war lust is torching Ukraine’s future, racking up casualties, and burning through supplies for no gain. The world’s begging for peace, but he’d rather strut than negotiate. Enough—his people deserve a leader who’ll end this nightmare, not fan its flames.
